A new golden rule I have recently adopted. This goes hand in hand with anti-consumerism and living a low-waste lifestyle (which is better for us and our planet anyways). Obviously, this rule might not be applicable to absolutely everything, but its a good guideline to have if you’re a pro shopper.
Nowadays, I try to avoid:
Going to stores/malls to browse for “fun” and no real purpose
Not doing the research before I buy, especially for expensive tech items
Anything composed of plastic (with a few exceptions)
Fast fashion
Beauty products and merch that are hyped up online/made by celebrities and influencers (ex. Rhode and Parke)
Disposable items… including that $8 starbucks coffee I can make at home in a reusable mug
Clothes and textiles made of artificial fabrics
Gimmicky items being sold on TikTok shop & similar markets by get-rich-quick “influencers”
(Speaking from experience of buying many things twice, and learning the sad truths of modern day consumerism)
